What Rockstar has actually said about the budget

Nothing. That is the whole answer, and every honest version of this page has to start there. Rockstar does not discuss what its games cost to produce, and Take-Two Interactive reports revenue and costs at the level of the company rather than per title. There is no filing, no press release and no interview in which the budget for Grand Theft Auto VI is stated.

So when a headline gives you a precise number for the most expensive game ever made, the useful question is not how big the figure is. It is who produced it and from what. In almost every case the answer is an analyst working from the outside, and the article you are reading is the third or fourth link in a chain that copied it.

Where the big numbers come from

Four sources, one of them official
Rockstar Says nothing The studio does not discuss production costs for any of its games, and it has not made an exception for GTA 6.
Take-Two Reports totals The publisher files quarterly results, but those cover the whole company. It has never broken out a budget for one game.
Analysts Publish estimates The billion dollar figures in headlines are built from development years, team size and marketing assumptions. Well sourced, still guesses.
Aggregator posts Repeat estimates Most articles quoting a budget are quoting another article. Follow the chain and it usually ends at one analyst, not at a company filing.

An estimate is not worthless. A careful one built from years of development, a known studio footprint and typical marketing ratios can land in the right neighbourhood. What it cannot do is become a fact by being repeated, and that is exactly what happens to these figures between the first report and the twentieth video about it.

How much has GTA 6 made so far?

The game is not out yet. It releases on November 19, 2026, so the only money it has taken is pre-orders, which have been open on the PlayStation and Xbox stores since June 25, 2026. Take-Two has not published how many of those there are or what they are worth, and neither store publishes unit sales.

That is why every chart claiming to show GTA 6 revenue so far is arithmetic performed on a guess. Somebody assumes a number of pre-orders, multiplies by $79.99 or by a blend of the two edition prices, and publishes the product as if it were reported. The multiplication is fine. The input is invented.

Real figures will exist eventually, in the form Take-Two chooses to give them, in a quarterly report after launch. When they appear they will show up in our news feed with the source attached. Until then, the only confirmed money in this story is the price you pay: $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate, broken down on the price page and compared tier by tier on the editions page.

GTA 6 stock: what people are searching for

There is no such thing as GTA 6 stock. Rockstar Games is a label inside Take-Two Interactive, and Take-Two is the listed company, traded under the ticker TTWO. Buying it means buying a share of the whole publisher, not of one game.

The share price is also the only public number that reacts to GTA 6 news in real time, which is why it gets treated as a scoreboard for the game. It is a poor one. A share price prices expectations about the entire business years ahead, so it moves on delays, on trailers and on things that have nothing to do with Rockstar at all. Reading it as a measure of how well GTA 6 is doing is reading a thermometer to find out the time.

Nothing on this page is investment advice, and none of it should be treated as a forecast. It is a description of which numbers exist and which do not.

  • Confirmed: the two prices, the release date, the platforms, the open pre-orders.
  • Estimated: the development budget, the marketing spend, the team size.
  • Not published at all: pre-order counts, revenue to date, per game costs in any Take-Two filing.

Related reading: the delay history is on the delays page, the date and hardware on the release date and platforms pages, and short answers to single questions in the answers section. PC costs cannot be discussed yet, because no PC version has been announced, as covered on the PC page.

GTA 6 budget FAQ

Quick answers

There is no official figure. Rockstar has never published a development budget for GTA 6 and Take-Two does not break out costs for individual games in its results.

Nobody outside the company knows. The large numbers quoted in headlines are analyst and press estimates built from development years, team size and marketing assumptions, not accounting from Take-Two.

That claim cannot be checked. Comparing budgets requires published budgets, and neither GTA 6 nor most of the games it is compared with has one.

No revenue figure has been published. The game releases on November 19, 2026, and Take-Two has not disclosed pre-order counts or pre-launch revenue for it.

Take-Two has not given a number. Store chart positions show demand in relative terms, not units, so any specific pre-order count you see is somebody modelling.

There is no GTA 6 stock. The company behind the game is Take-Two Interactive, traded as TTWO, and its share price covers the whole business rather than one release.

In Take-Two quarterly results after launch, and only to the extent the company chooses to describe them. Anything before that is modelling.
