GTA 6 Gameplay: The 26 Minute Extended Look, Broken Down

Rockstar published the first official GTA 6 gameplay on August 27, 2026: a 26 minute 49 second video called An Extended Look. It covers the wanted system, driving, interiors, side activities and weather across the state of Leonida. This page goes through what the footage shows, and what it deliberately leaves out.

Where to watch the GTA 6 gameplay video

The video is age restricted on YouTube, which means it cannot be embedded on any site. It has to be opened on YouTube itself, signed in. The poster above links straight to it on the official Rockstar Games channel.

It is also not Trailer 3. Rockstar has not announced a third trailer, and An Extended Look was published as a gameplay showcase. Both earlier trailers sit on the trailers page with dates and runtimes.

What the GTA 6 gameplay footage shows

Four systems, in detail
01

The wanted system

Police pressure that builds and fades

The clearest new system in the video is how the police react. Stars appear as they always have, but the response is staged: a single patrol car calls in a description, more units converge on the area, and a search zone appears once the officers lose sight of the player. Staying out of view lets the heat fall away, and driving straight through a road block does the opposite.

Officers behave differently depending on where the chase happens. On the Vice City strip the response is fast and dense, and on a rural highway it is thinner and later.

02

Driving and vehicle handling

Weight you can see in the bodywork

Cars roll and settle far more visibly than in GTA 5. Weight transfer shows in the suspension, tyres break traction gradually rather than all at once, and damage builds up panel by panel across a chase. Motorcycles get their own treatment, with rider body movement leaning into corners and a real difference between road bikes and the dirt bikes shown on trails.

Boats and off road driving both appear at length, which fits a map built around water and swamp. Rockstar has said nothing about handling models or assists, so the detail stays open until launch.

03

Interiors and the seamless world

Doors that open without a loading screen

The video walks from a street into shops, a diner, a strip club and private homes with no cut and no loading screen. Interiors are lit by their own light sources, staff and customers are present before the player arrives, and leaving is as direct as entering. Combined with the streaming open world, this is the biggest structural change from GTA 5, where most buildings were scenery.

Rockstar has not said how many buildings are enterable. Interiors are clearly a core part of the design, which is not the same as every door in Leonida opening.

04

Activities, weather and daily life

A state that runs on its own schedule

Between the chases the footage spends time on ordinary things: beaches filling and emptying, a bar at night, a swamp airboat, road trips between towns and small side pursuits away from the story. Weather moves across the state during the video, from bright coastal light into heavy rain, with wet roads, spray and a visible change in how traffic behaves.

Rockstar has not published a list of side activities or named a weather system. The video shows that time of day, weather and crowd density all change while you play.

GTA 6 gameplay leak or official gameplay?

Searches for a GTA 6 gameplay leak long predate any real gameplay. They come from September 2022, when early development footage was taken from Rockstar in a network intrusion the studio confirmed the following day. That material was an unfinished internal build: untextured geometry, placeholder animation and debug tools, recorded years before the game was ready to be shown.

An Extended Look is the opposite of that in every way. It was captured on launch hardware, edited by Rockstar and published by Rockstar, and it is the only footage anyone should treat as representative. If you want the full story of the 2022 incident and which claims from it held up, our GTA 6 leaks page goes through it with each claim labelled.

One practical warning: because the official video is age restricted, it gets re-uploaded constantly to channels that are not Rockstar, often with clickbait titles about new leaked gameplay. Those uploads are the same 26 minutes, recompressed.

What the gameplay video did not answer

A showcase is not a specification. Six questions people expected the video to settle are still open, and each one is worth checking before you read a confident answer elsewhere.

  • Performance modes. No frame rate targets or graphics modes have been announced for PS5, PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X|S.
  • Install size. No storefront has published a download size. Community figures are estimates.
  • Story length. Rockstar has not given a length for the campaign or a mission count.
  • Online mode. Nothing about a GTA 6 online mode has been announced, at launch or later.
  • PC version. Not announced, so nothing in the video reflects a PC build.
  • Trailer 3. Not announced either. The Extended Look was a gameplay video, not a trailer.

On hardware specifically, the video was shown running on the two launch platforms and nothing else. There is no PC version to compare it against, which is covered on the PC page, and the expected specification tiers are collected on the system requirements page, clearly marked as estimates. The console list itself sits on the platforms page.

How the gameplay fits with the trailers

Trailer 1 in December 2023 established the place. Trailer 2 in May 2025 established the pair, Lucia and Jason, and the tone of the story between them. The gameplay video is the first material about how any of it plays, and it is longer than both trailers put together by a wide margin.

Rockstar spent nearly three years selling a setting and two characters, then answered the mechanical questions in one long block. The people in that footage are profiled on the characters page, and the places it drives through are mapped on the map page. Questions about modes beyond the campaign sit on the online page, and any new video lands in our news feed first.
