Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed twice. It went from 2025 to May 26, 2026, and then to November 19, 2026, which is the date on the store pages today. It has not been delayed again since.

Three dates, in order
December 4, 2023Announced for 2025Trailer 1 ended with a single year and no month. Every "fall 2025" and "spring 2025" claim from that period was somebody filling in a blank Rockstar had left empty.
Delay oneMoved to May 26, 2026The vague 2025 became a precise day in the following spring. Precision was the news here: a studio that names a weekday usually has a plan behind it.
Delay twoMoved to November 19, 2026Just under six months later on the calendar, and the date the game currently carries on the PlayStation and Xbox store pages.
June 25, 2026Pre-orders openedAnnounced in the Newswire a week earlier, on June 18. From that day the November date stopped being an announcement and started being a transaction.
August 27, 2026An Extended LookA 26 minute video, the longest public look at the game so far. Studios do not usually run a campaign of that size against a date they expect to move.
November 19, 2026Release, about 73 days awayPS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Series S, worldwide, digital only. Standard $79.99, Ultimate $99.99.

Why GTA 6 was delayed
Rockstar has kept both explanations short, and neither of them went past the same idea: the game needed more time to reach the standard the studio wants to ship at. No technical cause, no production problem and no business reason has ever been confirmed by the company. Everything more specific than that, including the confident threads about engine trouble, staffing and internal deadlines, is reporting or guesswork rather than a Rockstar statement.
The shape of it is familiar enough. A studio that ships one enormous game every several years has very little reason to defend a date it set years earlier, and a great deal of reason to protect the launch itself. Uncomfortable as the waiting is, a delay announced months in advance is the cheap version of the problem.
The one thing worth being precise about is the first date. Trailer 1 said 2025 and nothing else. It never said fall, never said a month, and never named a day. Any article you remember claiming a specific 2025 window was writing over a blank.
Did GTA 6 get delayed again?
No. Since the move to November 19, 2026 the date has not changed once. This question spikes in search every time a rumour account posts a screenshot, and the check takes about ten seconds: open the PlayStation or Xbox store page for the game and read the date printed under the title. If it still says November 19, 2026, nothing has happened.
Could it move a third time? Honestly, yes, that cannot be ruled out. Rockstar has never described the date as final and this site will not put that word in the studio's mouth. Two dates have already gone, and a company willing to move a release twice is clearly willing to do it again if the game is not ready.
What has changed is the weight behind the date. In 2023 the commitment was a year at the end of a trailer. Today there are live store pages, published prices, pre-orders that have been taking money since June 25, 2026, and a marketing campaign that has already put out a 26 minute look at the game. Delays after a payment window opens are a different order of expensive. That is not a guarantee, it is a reason the odds look better than they did for either of the previous two dates.
Why is GTA 6 taking so long?
The last mainline Grand Theft Auto came out in 2013. The next one was revealed on December 4, 2023 and arrives in November 2026, which puts thirteen years between two releases. That gap is the real source of the question, and it is bigger than the two delays put together.
Rockstar has never said when work on GTA 6 started, so the honest answer to how long it has been in development is that the public does not know. What can be observed is what happened in between: GTA 5 kept selling across three console generations and stayed supported for years, and Rockstar released other games in that window. The team was not idle, it was working on other things while expectations for the next Grand Theft Auto kept compounding.
Signals to watch before you believe a new delay
Both real delays were announced by Rockstar itself, in public, before any leak. That is the pattern to trust.
Real: a post on the Rockstar Newswire, or a changed date on the PlayStation and Xbox store pages.
Not real: a retailer listing, a placeholder date in a database, a screenshot with no link, or a video titled "delayed again" with no source in it.
Not a thing at all: 2027 and 2028 dates. No such window has been mentioned by anyone at Rockstar or Take-Two.
If the date does move, the store pages change on the same day and this page changes with them. Until then the useful pages are the release date page, the live countdown, the pre-order guide with its November 20 bonus deadline, and the platform list. PC players have their own situation on the GTA 6 PC page, since no PC version has been announced at all.
GTA 6 delay FAQ
Quick answers
Twice. The reveal trailer promised 2025, that became May 26, 2026, and the game now carries November 19, 2026 on the PlayStation and Xbox store pages.
Not since the move to November 19, 2026. That date has stayed in place through the opening of pre-orders in June 2026 and the extended gameplay video in August 2026.
Nobody can promise it will not, and Rockstar has never called the date final. What is different now is that money is being taken and a campaign is running, which is a heavier commitment than a year printed on a trailer.
Rockstar has not published a detailed reason beyond needing more time to finish the game to its own standard. No specific technical or business cause has been confirmed by the company.
No. There is no 2027 date, no 2028 date and no window of any kind beyond November 19, 2026. Those years appear in speculation posts, not in anything Rockstar has said.
The previous mainline game came out in 2013 and GTA 6 was only revealed in December 2023. Rockstar has never stated when work began, so the exact development length is not a public number.
No. It has store pages, prices, open pre-orders and a 26 minute gameplay video from August 2026. Cancelled games do not take payments.
