Which console should you play GTA 6 on

The platform list for Grand Theft Auto VI is short and it has not moved once since the reveal. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, both on November 19, 2026, both digital, both at $79.99 for the Standard Edition. There is no timed exclusivity, no early access on one console and no boxed version anywhere.

GTA 6 on PS5 and PS5 Pro

Every PS5 runs it, including the disc model, the Digital Edition and the PS5 Pro. There is one PlayStation version of the game rather than a separate Pro edition, and buying it once covers whichever PS5 you own. Pre-orders on the PlayStation Store also carry a month of GTA+.

What Rockstar has not said is how the Pro differs. No resolution numbers, no frame rate targets, no ray tracing modes have been announced for any console. If you see a claim that GTA 6 runs at 60 fps on PS5 Pro, that is a prediction dressed up as a spec sheet.

GTA 6 on Xbox Series X and Series S

Both Xbox consoles are supported, and the Series S question comes up constantly because it is the weakest current generation machine on the market. It is on the official list, so it runs the game. How Rockstar handles the gap in memory and GPU power between Series S and Series X has never been detailed, and no Series S specific numbers have been published.

One practical point for Series S owners: the console has less internal storage than its siblings, and GTA 6 is a download with an install size Rockstar has never announced. An expansion card may be the difference between playing on release night and staring at a progress bar.

Will GTA 6 be on PS4 or Xbox One?

No. This is the cleanest answer on the page. GTA 6 is a current generation release and last generation hardware has never appeared in a single announcement, store page or trailer for it. GTA 5 famously spanned three console generations, and some people expect the same generosity here, but a game built around fast SSD streaming and the current consoles' memory does not scale down to 2013 hardware.

If a PS4 or Xbox One is your only console, the honest options are upgrading, waiting to see whether a PC version is ever announced, or skipping it. There is no fourth option hiding somewhere.

Will GTA 6 be on Switch 2?

Not announced, which is different from ruled out. Rockstar has never mentioned Nintendo hardware for GTA 6 in any form. Nintendo's newer console is more capable than the original Switch, and third party ports of demanding games have appeared there, so the idea is not absurd. It is just not a thing that has happened.

Treat every Switch 2 date, listing screenshot and retail rumour the same way: interesting, unverified, and worth nothing until Rockstar or Nintendo says it out loud.

What about PC and cloud

A PC version has not been announced and has no date, which is the single biggest gap in the platform list. Because that question deserves more than a paragraph, it has its own page: GTA 6 on PC covers Rockstar's porting history and what the silence does and does not mean. Cloud streaming is in the same position, with no service named by anyone.

Digital only, on every platform

There is no disc. Not on PlayStation, not on Xbox, not as a collector's box with a map inside. Both editions are downloads, which is why the two console stores are the only places selling the game and why any physical GTA 6 product in a shop window is not a Rockstar product.

  • Confirmed: PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, November 19, 2026, digital, $79.99 or $99.99.
  • Not supported: PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch.
  • Not announced: PC, Switch 2, cloud streaming, performance modes, install size.
