Not yet, and no date for it exists. Preload windows are announced close to launch, and for a November 19 release that announcement would land somewhere in the final fortnight.
What preload does
Your console downloads the encrypted game files ahead of time and leaves them locked until the unlock moment. When the clock hits, you are decrypting rather than downloading - minutes instead of hours. It applies to everyone who owns the game digitally, which for GTA 6 means everyone, since there is no disc release.
How Rockstar has handled it before
Previous Rockstar console launches opened preload a few days ahead, typically two to four. That is a reasonable expectation to plan around, not a schedule to rely on.
Install size
Unknown. The figures circulating - 150 GB is the popular one - come from community estimates and comparisons with other open-world releases, not from a storefront listing. Real numbers appear on the PlayStation and Xbox product pages before launch, and often change once the day-one patch is factored in. If you are trying to decide whether to clear space now, clearing space now is sensible regardless of which number turns out to be right.
Two practical notes
- Preload requires the game already purchased, so a pre-order is the prerequisite.
- Series S owners should check storage early - that console’s usable space fills up fast, and external drives cannot run current-gen titles directly.
We will note the preload opening in the news feed as soon as it is live, and the release date page carries the launch countdown in the meantime.
