Rockstar Games officially announced Grand Theft Auto VI on December 4, 2023, when it dropped the first trailer on YouTube. That trailer, titled “Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1” (video ID QdBZY2fkU-0), runs 1:31 and set a record with roughly 93 million views in its first 24 hours. The announcement came more than a decade after GTA V’s initial 2013 console release.
Before that date, the game existed only as rumors and leaks. Rockstar confirmed development in February 2022 with a Newswire post, but that post gave no title, window, or platforms. The December 2023 trailer was the first official word on the game’s name, setting, and a vague “2025” release window, which later slipped.
