Rockstar postponed GTA 6 on two separate occasions. The first delay, announced in early 2025, pushed the game from its original 2025 window to May 26, 2026. Rockstar cited the need for extra development time to “ensure the game is as polished as possible.” The second delay, announced in April 2026, moved the release date to November 19, 2026, with a similar explanation: the team needed more time to refine the open world and online systems.
Why the delays happened
Industry reports and internal sources point to several factors. The game’s massive scale, with two fictional states and a fully simulated city, has pushed the production timeline. Rockstar also shifted to a less stressful development model after the public backlash over crunch during Red Dead Redemption 2. That means more time for testing and bug fixes, but slower overall.
Take-Two’s financial guidance had to be revised twice, confirming the schedule slippage. The final date, November 19, 2026, is now set, but Rockstar has not called it “final.” No further delays are expected, but nothing is guaranteed until the game actually ships.
