GTA 6 is expensive because Rockstar raised the base price to $79.99 for the Standard digital edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is $10 more than the usual $69.99 AAA launch price, and it is the first mainline Grand Theft Auto to go digital-only, which removes disc production and retail cuts but does not lower the cost to you. The Ultimate edition, at $99.99, adds extras like the Vintage Vice City Pack and exclusive in-game items, but there is no Deluxe or Special tier to split the difference.
Part of the price reflects the production scale. Trailer 1 and the 26-minute Extended Look show a dense, detailed Vice City, and Rockstar has spent years on this title. But the increase is also a market move, as you can see on the price page. Take-Two and Rockstar have not justified the $79.99 in any official statement, and no PC version is announced, so console players are the only audience at launch.
Preorders opened June 25, 2026, with the Standard bonus being the Vintage Vice City Pack if you order before November 20. There is no physical disc anywhere, so the $79.99 is the floor, not a collector’s premium.
