Rockstar has made no announcement about shutting down GTA Online when Grand Theft Auto VI releases on November 19, 2026. The studio has historically kept older online titles alive, and GTA Online is still a major revenue source. Nothing in the official GTA 6 marketing, including the two trailers and the August 27, 2026 Extended Look, mentions retiring the current game.
GTA 6 launches as a single-player title only. An online mode for it has not been announced, so GTA Online is effectively the only multiplayer GTA available at launch. That makes a shutdown even less likely in the near term. Rockstar also bought the FiveM and RedM team in 2023, but no mod tools or servers for GTA 6 have been confirmed, so the current online ecosystem stays central.
Expect GTA Online to keep running well past the GTA 6 launch, likely through 2027 at least. The only real precedent is the last console generation: GTA Online continued on PS4 and Xbox One years after GTA 5’s PC release. No official end date exists, and none has been hinted.
