No, and it was never a maybe. Every Rockstar announcement, every trailer end-card and both console storefront listings name current-generation hardware only.
Why last-gen was ruled out
GTA V shipped on PS3 in 2013, so the assumption that Rockstar always squeezes onto old hardware is understandable - but that was a game built for those consoles first and upscaled afterwards. GTA 6 goes the other way. It was designed around what PS5 and Series X|S provide as a baseline: fast solid-state storage that lets a dense city stream in without loading screens, far more memory, and a GPU generation that arrived seven years after the PS4’s.
Backporting that is not a matter of turning down settings. The world would have to be rebuilt smaller.
What about streaming it to old hardware?
Nothing official covers this. Cloud services have carried Rockstar titles before, and a cloud version would technically let an older console act as a screen, but no such arrangement has been announced for GTA 6. Do not plan around it.
The GTA Online comparison does not apply
GTA Online kept last-gen players supported for years after newer consoles arrived, and that history convinced a lot of people the same courtesy would extend here. It will not. Supporting an existing live service on old hardware is a maintenance decision; shipping a brand-new flagship there is an engineering one, and Rockstar ended last-gen support for GTA Online before GTA 6 was ever dated.
If you are still on last-gen
- A Series S is the cheapest legitimate route onto the supported list.
- A used PS5 or Series X becomes markedly cheaper in the months around a launch this size, when upgraders sell.
- Waiting for PC is a gamble - that version has not been announced at all, let alone dated.
