This matches the series’ recent pattern. Grand Theft Auto V skipped the PS3-to-PS4 transition awkwardly, but GTA 6 is built for modern hardware. The 26-minute Extended Look from August 27, 2026 showcases features like dense traffic, dynamic weather and detailed interiors that the PS4’s 2013-era CPU could not handle.
If you only own a PS4, your options are limited. The standard edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate edition $99.99, both digital only. You would need a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S to play at all. A PC version remains unannounced and undated, so don’t wait for that as a PS4 alternative either.
