GTA 6 is rated M for Mature (ESRB) and 18+ (PEGI), so digital storefronts on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will require you to verify your age at purchase. That means a government-issued ID or a linked account with a verified birth date, depending on your region and the store’s policy. Physical discs don’t exist for GTA 6, so there’s no retail ID check at a counter, but the digital checkout is where the age gate happens.
Once the game is on your console, you don’t need an ID to launch it or play the single-player campaign. Parental controls on PS5 and Xbox can restrict M-rated games, but that’s a console setting, not a Rockstar requirement. If you’re under 18, you’ll likely need an adult to complete the purchase or set up the account.
Online play, if it ever launches, would follow the same account-based age verification used by GTA Online today, but no online mode is announced for GTA 6 yet.
