An official headcount for the GTA 6 development team has never been released by Rockstar. The closest confirmed data comes from a 2022 Bloomberg report, which said the studio had roughly 2,000 people working on the game across its various offices. That number was described as a snapshot, not a final count, and it likely grew during the final production push.
For context, Grand Theft Auto V’s development involved over 1,000 staff at its peak, according to a 2013 interview with Rockstar’s art director. GTA 6’s scope, the two protagonist setup and the larger map make a bigger team plausible, but Rockstar has not confirmed any specific headcount since that 2022 report.
What is known is that Rockstar consolidated its studios into a single team structure after Red Dead Redemption 2, meaning staff from Dundee, Leeds, New England, San Diego and other locations all contribute to the same project. Contractors and outsourced motion capture or QA work are not included in public estimates.
Until Rockstar shares an updated number, treat any figure above 2,000 as speculation. The company tends to avoid team size announcements, so this is likely all we get before launch.
