Rockstar Games is the developer and owner of Grand Theft Auto VI. The studio, known for every mainline GTA title since 2001, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive, which acts as the publisher. That structure has been in place for decades and applies to the entire GTA franchise.
Take-Two reported the November 19, 2026 release date for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in its earnings calls, and Rockstar confirmed it via Newswire on June 18, 2026. All revenue from preorders, which opened June 25, 2026, flows to Take-Two’s bottom line. The IP itself remains with Rockstar, but Take-Two controls distribution, marketing, and platform deals.
There is no co-owner or external studio involved in the core game. Rockstar North leads development, with other Rockstar studios supporting. Cfx.re, acquired in 2023, is separate and has no ownership stake in GTA 6 itself.
