Is Vice City back in GTA 6?

Short answer

Yes. Vice City returns as the main city of the state of Leonida, rebuilt from scratch rather than remastered, and it is where both trailers spend their opening shots.

Updated Map

Yes, and it is the centrepiece. Vice City is the main urban area of Leonida, rebuilt from nothing rather than dusted off, and it carries the pre-order bonus name too: the Standard edition ships with a Vintage Vice City Pack for players who ordered before launch week.

How this version differs from 2002

The original Vice City was a two-island 1980s pastiche with a soundtrack doing much of the heavy lifting. The new one is contemporary. Phone screens, social feeds and short-form video are woven into how the city presents itself, which changes the tone completely - the satire is aimed at 2026 rather than at Scarface.

What looks familiar

  • The oceanfront strip of pastel art deco hotels
  • A downtown of glass towers separated from the beach by a causeway
  • Marinas, cruise terminals and a working port
  • Neighbourhoods that sit well outside the tourist postcard

What is new

Density, mostly. Crowds in the showcase footage behave as individuals rather than as scenery - arguing, filming each other, reacting to what the player does nearby. Shopfronts open. The city has a visible day-to-night rhythm where the same street looks and behaves differently at 4pm and 4am.

Is the whole game set there?

No. Vice City is one part of Leonida, and a good chunk of the footage released so far takes place well outside it - wetlands, keys, small towns and open highway. The city is the anchor, not the boundary. Our map guide breaks down the areas shown so far.

For the trailer shots that show the city best, the trailers page has all three official videos, including the extended look Rockstar published in August 2026.
