Rockstar has not announced any shutdown of GTA Online for GTA 6. The current game will keep running on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC after the November 19, 2026 launch. Historically, GTA Online survived the jump from PS3 and Xbox 360 to PS4 and Xbox One in 2014, and again to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2022. A full shutdown is not on the table.
What is less clear is the long-term support. GTA 6 ships as a single-player game, and Rockstar has not announced any online mode for it. That leaves GTA Online as the only live multiplayer GTA service for now, which gives Rockstar a strong reason to keep it alive. Expect regular updates to continue, though new content drops may slow once GTA 6’s online mode is eventually revealed.
If you are worried about your progress, it is safe. GTA Online characters and money do not transfer to GTA 6, because no online mode exists yet, but your current account stays intact. Rockstar also owns FiveM and RedM, and those community servers are unaffected by GTA 6’s release. No dates, no closures, no migration plans have been announced.
